Getting Started
From install to fully organized in under 2 minutes.
Install the Extension
Head to the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. That's it โ no account, no sign-up, no email required.
Once installed, you'll see the ๐ฐ icon in your browser toolbar. Click it to open the TabRoulette popup.
Create Your First Workspace
Click the TabRoulette icon and hit + New Workspace.
- Name it โ use your client name: "Acme Corp", "Initech", "Personal"
- Pick a color โ this becomes the tab group color in Chrome so you can tell workspaces apart instantly
- Add an emoji (optional) โ makes it even easier to spot: ๐ด Acme, ๐ฃ Initech, ๐ข Personal
Your workspace is now a Chrome tab group. All tabs in this workspace get grouped and color-coded automatically.
Set Up URL Routing Rules
This is where TabRoulette saves you the most time. URL rules automatically move tabs to the right workspace.
Open Settings โ URL Rules (or right-click the extension icon โ Options). Add patterns like:
| Pattern | Workspace |
|---|---|
*.acmecorp.com | ๐ด Acme Corp |
github.com/acme/* | ๐ด Acme Corp |
*.initech.io | ๐ฃ Initech |
mail.google.com/u/0/* | ๐ข Personal |
Now when you open slack.acmecorp.com from anywhere, it automatically lands in your Acme workspace. No dragging tabs around.
Learn the Keyboard Shortcuts
This is the fastest way to switch contexts:
On Mac, use โ+Shift instead of Ctrl+Shift.
chrome://extensions/shortcuts โ Chrome limits extensions to 4 custom shortcuts, and other extensions may have claimed yours.
Create Launch Sets
Launch Sets save a group of URLs you open together. Think of them as bookmarks on steroids โ open all your client's tools in one click.
To create one:
- Open the tabs you need for a client (Slack, GitHub, Jira, GCP, etc.)
- Click the TabRoulette popup
- Hit Save as Launch Set
- Name it โ "Acme Morning Standup" or "Initech Dev"
Tomorrow morning, one click reopens all of them in the right workspace. No bookmarks folder, no "which browser profile was that in?"
Map Your Google Accounts (Optional)
If you use multiple Google Workspace accounts, TabRoulette can map each account index to a workspace. This powers the wrong-account warning feature.
Open Settings โ Google Accounts and map:
/u/0/โ ๐ข Personal (your default Google account)/u/1/โ ๐ด Acme Corp/u/2/โ ๐ฃ Initech
Now if you're in the Acme workspace and open a Google Doc from your Personal account (/u/0/), TabRoulette warns you before you accidentally edit in the wrong context.
You're all set! ๐
That's everything you need. A few things to keep in mind:
- โ All data stays local. TabRoulette stores everything in your browser. No accounts, no servers, no tracking.
- โ Chrome Sync works. Your workspace names, colors, and URL rules sync across devices where you're signed into Chrome.
- โ Free includes 2 workspaces. If you need more, Pro is $8/mo and unlocks unlimited workspaces, URL routing, and Launch Sets.
