Getting Started

From install to fully organized in under 2 minutes.

1

Install the Extension

Head to the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. That's it โ€” no account, no sign-up, no email required.

Once installed, you'll see the ๐ŸŽฐ icon in your browser toolbar. Click it to open the TabRoulette popup.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access. Right-click the puzzle piece icon โ†’ Pin TabRoulette.
2

Create Your First Workspace

Click the TabRoulette icon and hit + New Workspace.

  1. Name it โ€” use your client name: "Acme Corp", "Initech", "Personal"
  2. Pick a color โ€” this becomes the tab group color in Chrome so you can tell workspaces apart instantly
  3. Add an emoji (optional) โ€” makes it even easier to spot: ๐Ÿ”ด Acme, ๐ŸŸฃ Initech, ๐ŸŸข Personal

Your workspace is now a Chrome tab group. All tabs in this workspace get grouped and color-coded automatically.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Create one workspace per client or context. Most consultants have 3-5 workspaces. The free plan includes 2 โ€” Pro unlocks unlimited.
3

Set Up URL Routing Rules

This is where TabRoulette saves you the most time. URL rules automatically move tabs to the right workspace.

Open Settings โ†’ URL Rules (or right-click the extension icon โ†’ Options). Add patterns like:

Pattern Workspace
*.acmecorp.com ๐Ÿ”ด Acme Corp
github.com/acme/* ๐Ÿ”ด Acme Corp
*.initech.io ๐ŸŸฃ Initech
mail.google.com/u/0/* ๐ŸŸข Personal

Now when you open slack.acmecorp.com from anywhere, it automatically lands in your Acme workspace. No dragging tabs around.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: TabRoulette detects popular SaaS apps (Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, etc.) and suggests URL rules for you.
4

Learn the Keyboard Shortcuts

This is the fastest way to switch contexts:

Ctrl+Shift+1 Switch to workspace 1
Ctrl+Shift+2 Switch to workspace 2
Ctrl+Shift+3 Switch to workspace 3
Ctrl+Shift+Space Toggle last workspace

On Mac, use โŒ˜+Shift instead of Ctrl+Shift.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: If shortcuts don't work, check chrome://extensions/shortcuts โ€” Chrome limits extensions to 4 custom shortcuts, and other extensions may have claimed yours.
5

Create Launch Sets

Launch Sets save a group of URLs you open together. Think of them as bookmarks on steroids โ€” open all your client's tools in one click.

To create one:

  1. Open the tabs you need for a client (Slack, GitHub, Jira, GCP, etc.)
  2. Click the TabRoulette popup
  3. Hit Save as Launch Set
  4. Name it โ€” "Acme Morning Standup" or "Initech Dev"

Tomorrow morning, one click reopens all of them in the right workspace. No bookmarks folder, no "which browser profile was that in?"

6

Map Your Google Accounts (Optional)

If you use multiple Google Workspace accounts, TabRoulette can map each account index to a workspace. This powers the wrong-account warning feature.

Open Settings โ†’ Google Accounts and map:

  • /u/0/ โ†’ ๐ŸŸข Personal (your default Google account)
  • /u/1/ โ†’ ๐Ÿ”ด Acme Corp
  • /u/2/ โ†’ ๐ŸŸฃ Initech

Now if you're in the Acme workspace and open a Google Doc from your Personal account (/u/0/), TabRoulette warns you before you accidentally edit in the wrong context.

You're all set! ๐ŸŽ‰

That's everything you need. A few things to keep in mind:

  • โœ“ All data stays local. TabRoulette stores everything in your browser. No accounts, no servers, no tracking.
  • โœ“ Chrome Sync works. Your workspace names, colors, and URL rules sync across devices where you're signed into Chrome.
  • โœ“ Free includes 2 workspaces. If you need more, Pro is $8/mo and unlocks unlimited workspaces, URL routing, and Launch Sets.
